Building Construction
A
two-year program designed to provide at least entry-level skills in the area of
residential building construction.
First year students use construction tools and equipment while learning
and practicing the many skills that are necessary in order to become a
carpenter. During the course of that year you will build lawn storage buildings,
bob houses, summer screen buildings, etc, which are sold to area residents. The second year students are involved in
the off-campus site construction of various building projects and may include a
residential home or commercial enterprise. The concern for safety in the use of
all tools and equipment is stressed throughout both years of the program.
Students will learn positive work habits such as cooperation, reliability, initiative,
team work, and
the ability to follow instructions. This program is
articulated with Central Maine Community College for the courses of Introduction
to Hand & Power Tool Safety; Roofing; and Siding.
